Beard Care Tips & Tricks
Over the past few months, anyone stuck at home has made some beauty and hygiene changes, whether out of necessity or just to shake things up. Time at home has likely allowed you to experiment with your look in ways you haven’t been able to before.
Whether you stopped shaving your face a few months ago or you’re starting to grow out your beard today, there are some beard care tips and tricks you should keep in mind for growing (and maintaining) the most epic beard.
Invest in the Right Tools
Owning your own beard tools is important for taking care of your beard in the long run. We recommend purchasing good clippers, moustache trimming scissors, a beard wash, and a beard oil or moisturizer. A beard can only look so good if you use an old pair of clippers and a dull pair of scissors!
Ask during your haircut appointment at our men’s salon for recommendations based on your hair type; we’d love to help you find the best beard products on the market.
Channel Your Beard Envy
Make a plan for the length and shape of your beard. Maybe you’ve found a celebrity whose beard you want to mimic, or maybe you’ve researched beard shapes to find the perfect fit for the shape of your face. Whatever the case, take the time to plan ahead for your ideal beard!
Shape & Trim Your Beard Regularly
Properly shaping and trimming as your hair grows is essential. If you have an Adam’s apple, place your finger on it; this is where the bottom of your beard should end. Do you want a natural or more defined look for the beard in the cheeks area? If you want to aim for a more defined look, a beard stencil or shaping tool may help.
Remember that perseverance is also key to growing a full beard. If your facial hair grows slowly or seems patchy, don’t just let everything grow and hope the rest catches up! Keep up with trimming and these areas may just be slow to grow. Trust us, your patience will pay off.
Wash & Condition, Condition, Condition!
Proper maintenance means attending to the look (and smell) of your beard. Nothing is less appealing than a beard full of the smell of cigarette smoke or bits of yesterday’s dinner. Most people should wash their beard once a week and condition around two to three times a week. This can vary depending on the season; in the winter, you may need to condition more.
